i work at a petco out here in colorado. As i was getting an order of feeders in, i found a random tadpole.

I decided to take it home with me. Problem being I dont have any real good idea on how to rear it?
Right now its in a 29 gallon with some other small native caught fish, and a crayfish i caught is only about 2 and a half inches.

anyways, i read that I can keep them in a bowl. is this true? How large should it be? What kind of food should i be feeding him?

And, since its a random tadpole, it will turn into a random amphibian right? pressuming a frog, but still.

if i am correct newts do not start out as tadpoles so its going to metamorphise into either a frog or toad. To find out if its a frog or if its a toad look at the colour; toad tadpoles will be black while frog tadpoles will be a sort of brown spekeld (spelling?) colour. depending on size frozen bloodworms will be accepted as its food.

If you have a spare ten gallon tank or something I would keep it by itself. My main concern is the crayfish. It may try and eat it and if it is a toad many of them have poison and you will lose both your cray and tadpole. Now either way this is what I have done in the past. Just treat them like you would any fish and feed them regular fish flakes and/ or spirulina flakes (they do best on those). Then when they start to sprout feet you must bring in some land for them to get up on. They may not use it at first but I garuntee that they will eventually. Then they will lose the tail all together and depending on the species you must go from there. Feed them nightcrawlers, wax worms, meal worms, crickets, and they may eat turtle pellets too. Try and get a picture up.

When i worked at the co that happened all the time. But usually it was the actual frog coming in. Not sure on the species...may have been leopard frogs.

I used to boil lettuce and drop that in my tank (When I was breeding firebelly toads, and had tadpoles) I also used hikari algae wafers. This worked well, as about 90% made it into toadlets...

It's most likely a Green, Leopard or Pickerel Frog Tadpole. Keep it by it's self because I'm sure that crayfish would love to snack on it.

well at work today i picked up a 5.5 gallon for him. About to set it up now.

Thanks for all the input, once i can get a better look at him tonight ill try to put an I.D. on it. Im just ganna have it on my kitchen table, woo.
