Hello again I'm still trying to figure out what to stock my 55 gallon aquarium with. I know it will have two Senegal bichirs and some rainbowfish. I've debated back on forth on cichlids and am still considering one. I don't have a lot of options around my LFS but could possible get my hands on a blue acaras or some other acaras. Would this cichlid work out with the bichirs and rainbowfish? Would it be ok to keep just keep one since cichlids become territorial/aggressive when they pair? Input please

A single Acara would be your best bet, as you stated above having a pair could be a bad idea. Just like any other cichlid the Blue Acara does get territorial when they spawn (first hand experience) and a pair might try to take over the 55.

On a side note, I'm not sure what type/how many rainbow fish you have in thew tank, I am assuming that they are Boesemans and that you have at least 5 or 6 of them; Given the current stocking: 2 Senegals and 5/6 Rainbows you may not want to add any more fish. You wouldn't be extremely overstocked if you did add the Acara but you'd be getting up there. Also, if you do add the Acara, make sure to pick one up at a descent size, if the Senegasls have any size to them at all they may see a small Acara as a snack.

I've not gotten any of the rainbowfish yet but plan on getting 3 Australians and 3 turquoise. The tank will be "over" filtrated and more than likely will be upgraded to a 75 or bigger when the fish get close to their max size. Right now the Senegals are only about 3is inches. I'm still weighing my options about adding a single cichlid or not as a centerpiece fish.

Thanks for taking the time to reply :D

IF YOU GET A CICHLID .. make sure he's little 3" bichir is a snack for anything with size..
