lol

i live 3 doors down from a senior member of californias fish and game dept. he has told me point blank the only time they go and do a big asian aro bust is when they want more money for their dept. he personally keeps asian aros, FW rays and has a nice 180 with a school of 25 RBP's.

if F&G really cared (which they don't btw, theres not enough money in caring about illegal fish) they would simply set up stings here in socal of EVERY LFS. get to know any LFS owner and they'll hook you up with what ever you want. F&G know this, but they don't make any money doing it, so they don't.

they're more concerned with making people pay for their fishing licenses or paying for their game tags then they are with catching some asian kid with a redtail gold aro.
Lol this kid is so full of crap:screwy: . Btw, don't be so specific with the fish he has, it makes it more believable

The origin of the SH issues on the east coast wasn't directly caused by the food markets. It was caused by a market customer who purchased SHs for a family dinner. When family members died, he released the live SHs into local waters in a ceremonial honor tradition for the dead. Unfortunately, the SHs survived and flourished from this release.
i guess you got to deleting that rediculous post before i got to responding to it.

Americans are funny, people like to tell others what to do,how to think and how to live whether it be churches, activists or (mis)guided politicians.

For example, Piranha are illegal here in washington, but perfectly legal in Oregon? The climates are nearly the same yet someone thought it was a good idea to ban them here. Not that I care really for my own sake of keeping them as I think they and Pacu are horrendously ugly.

But, it goes farther than that as well, for example the gun laws in Cali...No pistols in San Fran? yet you can legally buy one outside of city limits.

My biggest issue i suppose with all this is Americans taking away FREEDOMS for a supposed FREE country. And in that sense i support the legalization of a lot of things and the unrestrictions of others (Washington being the most critical of tobacco smokers in the country last i checked).
So i will personally buy packs or smokes or cigars or whatever products not because i need or want them, but because its my right as an American to do them, not someone elses who doesnt like the smell (i dont like your perfume, or you dont wear any and infact stink but that isnt illegal?)

I tried to avoid delving too far into other topics, but it was a little difficult to not mention such examples.

BTW i dont know of any fish sites being shut down.

Although irresponsible for the big picture, I like that explanation much better than the report I saw. (and I am glad I did not have to finish composing my response to the quickly modded/deleted post that did follow my last. I spent many years in Asia and the people are some of the best I have ever known.)
yes oddball was like a ninja on that, i tried a few times to quote it and couldnt figure out why it wouldnt show up until i refreshed the page and saw what had happened:)

if its illegal its illegal bottom line, read up on snakeheads in america, or look at the inavise species list in florida, that is why illegal fish are illegal
are you kidding me? Those fish adapt very well and a extreanly hardy species.some states corals are banned when it reaches below freezing in those states. Irresponsible owners are who to blame. And they say oh get a permit well I would if you'd let me actually obtain one! I have setups that could easy hold the specimen with a overkill of space, still no. I never had or will release a fish ! Again thanks irespnsable owners ever heard of giving something away for free? Instead of getting them banned for all of us

Do we relly expect politicians/officials to agree with one another enough to legalize or permit these species when MFK, a community of people with like minded interests cannot agree in a thread like this? I don't think so. Do something to help change it or don't complain..

Many people in my area keep illegal species, that's their prerogative and risk, I could care less.. I am responsible for my own actions. Oddball said it. The staff isn't here to police peoples stock list or choices, we can only stick by the laws and keep this site moving forward.

This.
On a side not I think the only reason I read past page 1 was due to the heated debate between oddball and mrblah. Interesting stuff.:chillpill:

I say make any fish that could threaten native stocks illegal....without a permit. The reason I say this is anyone who really wants those fish will get the permit as usually the processes aren't difficult but would be enough to deter people who get a fish on a whim. This would theoretically decrease the whole large fish small aquarium problem to some degree among other issues that we currently debate on this site.

Presuming the permit process isn't difficult is one thing. Acquiring some kinds of animal permits is near impossible. I wouldn't mind if they simply had a permit and chip system for threatening fishes but most permit process don't allow hobbiests to keep anything. The notion of determining threatening species the point could be argued and has been that pretty much all pets are threatening to the environment on the right scale and with the wrong pet owners.
