Has anyone successfully kept large aros in shallow tanks like 18" tall. I have a 28" aro and was looking at a 6x4x18" tall tank. He is in a 6x2x2 now and I want to move him to a permanent home since he will not get along with the other fish in the 750g. I know 18" seems a bit shallow but I found a good deal on it.

definitely a good footprint, but I think its a bad idea due to the jumping nature of your fish, even with a lid, which I assume would be hard to come by, I don't think it would work out

there is someone on here keeping a large jardini in a large shallow tank wit an open top. Mine don't like the shallow water during water changes. You may find different with a single. Have you considered lowering the water level in the 180g for an extended period of time to see it's reaction?

I didn't think about water changes. The aro is about 12 years old and very docile. Only kept with a couple rays. After rethinking it though, I just might wait and get something taller. When he goes to bottom to grab food his tail already comes out of the water sometimes.

My arowana jumped directly at me, hitting me during a water change once. He is in a 12 inch high tank and he is only 3 inches high, maximum (small arowana). I don't think the height will actually make that much of a difference in my opinion, as long as the arowana isn't like skimming the bottom as it swims or something close to that, just have a strong lid.
