Keeping large aros in shallow tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i kept mine for 2 months in the 180 with only 16" of water filled.. i don't see any problem if it's 18" tall tank.. just keep the tank covered but i notices some aro are very calm and doesn't jump as much.. your 180 and my 300 one are very good examples... but the aro in my 180 do jump a lot.. like people said even in water changes..

Though isn't one of the tricks for silvers to prevent drop to keep them in shallow tanks

I've heard that too Charney, we need more tests to be done for concrete evidence

I guess to say all aros need a certain height of tank is silly considering Asians are deeper bodied and are much more acrobatic up and down swimmers throughout the watercolumn than South Americans (which the op has i believe) from what i've observed. My South Americans have always spent most of their time up top unless a market shrimp was falling to the bottom. Aro owners that feed sinking foods predominantly over floating foods may benefit from a bit more height. I personally feed 90% floating foods for my South American so depth isn't as important imo
