Keeping Leleupi and brichardi colonies in same tank

As far as leulupi and brichardi as tankmates with Front, if you have a lot of rock work, it may work. Leulupi and brichardi are rock dwellers and don't stay out in the open much so the Front won't be able to get them. And if you raise them together, the Front won't view them as prey.

You may have problem with open water tankmates with Front. The aggressiveness of Front is underrated because as once they reach sexual maturity, Front can be a killer in a small tank. I have one male Frontosa that successively killed half a dozen 6 to 8 inch haps in a 75 gal tank. Front is so big and powerful that it doesn't take much of its effort to kill any tankmate he doesn't like.

Most folks end up killing or otherwise getting rid of fronts before they reach maturity by dropping small ones into a tank of mixed africans or by keeping them in too small tanks.

It takes years for fronts to reach maturity and 99% of fishkeepers have long since moved on.

If you want to keep fronts well, give them a large tank, keep them alone and give them time.

Fronts unlike other African cichlids need their space and need to be kept in a large enough tank, they so however take a long time to grow. My colony of Mobas are in a 180 with Alto Black Calvus , Jumbo Cyprochromis and some Syno Petro cats. They all get along great and I have been able to keep various other Tangs with my Fronts without an issue, I have also had my failures. My Alpha male Front is about 14" and for the most part a gentle giant, but also capable of great speed and power. Brichardi and Lelupi is probably not a good choice as they will nip at the long trailers of the Fronts that take for ever to grow and make them so majestic. As far as predation it is in their nature, one of my failures was with a group of Kilesa they went in the tank scared and skidish and the Fronts took them out in 15 minutes. I believe it is how the other fish acts that depends on the Fronts behavior to them. My Jumbo Cyps went in the tank like they owned it and my Fronts look at them as tank mates and not prey, however I'm not a fool either and I know that can change at any time. Fronts should be in a 6' tank as a minimum when mature.

Hmm.. I was upset with leleupi first time I got them. The frontosas were smaller then and were really disturbed by the constant activity of the leleupi. If I see trouble I would move the smaller fish to small tanks. Really frontosas need to be raised alone. I have only 1 burundi 6 inch in the tank and he looks regal sometimes. Hope to get some F1 Moba in future.
