Keeping multiple GTs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only SA cichlid that my GT has had a problem with where other GT males. So far I've kept him with a Convict, JD and Festea. My tank isn't that big though.

I figured it would be a case of trial and error as is with any cichlids. My guy seems to be a gentle giant so i am hoping there shouldnt be too many issues. I figured somebody on mfk may have tried something similar.

Well I have 5 GT living with one another right now but a smaller size about 3-4 inch I believe I have 1-2 males and 3 defiant females, they all hide out in a cannon and play swim a line with one another when they come out with little aggression but are still young so this may change. I did have 2 defiant males at the start and one was killed over night which leads me to think if you have 1 male with a few females it may work out better then all males but I could be wrong with full grown specimens.

I originally started with 5 then removed the other three when this guy paired with his female. He never killed any of the others, gave them a few tatty fins at best. He is more of a laid back boss who will only attack my larger oscar which is of a similar size (presume he sees him as a threat). So i am hoping that he wont be phased by the smaller silvers and he will go about his business as normal.
