KEEPING NEW CAT?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do have a question regarding temps,
I caught this month with the night time tempature at the lake reaching around 28-36 degrees,
My major concern has been bringing the holding tanks temp up very slowly,
I started around 60 degrees and I have gotten it up to 68 degrees so far,
My tanks never see under 80 degrees, I want to keep and maintain at 80 degrees
for life.
Have you ever noticed problems with higher tempatures?

All of my other catfish I assume have been breed, not caught from the wild,
my TSN,RTC,TSNxRTC were all bought locally less then 3''.
On that note could they still introduce a pathogen to wild caught fish?
Or the opposite could they introduce a pathogen to my already established?

I never noticed a problem with mine a higher temps. Channels are about indistructable when it comes to water qualitys. As for introducing a foreign pathogen into ur already existing stock, it is a risk. The channel lived in waters none of the others have or could live in increasing the likelyhood of introducing a pathogen their immune system would have no antibodies for. Kinda like u have a much higher chance of getting sick if u were to go to south America without any immunizations

What could you recommend for medication?
I want to nuke these guys, and get them up to par as soon as possible.
I have been giving very healthy doses of para-clear,
But i do want to make 100% sure before they are all introduced.
I am scared of their appetites, I want to make sure that everyone else
will be more then large enough before I introduce them all together,
so far they don't have much of an appetite I have been very successful
with feeding worms, and beef heart, I see more of a problem with them eating
anyone else rather then the other way around.

i have never had luck with wild caught cats but have known people that did have luck, i had a channel cat and when he was younger he would hide from my oscar, but when he was a little bigger than my o he started fighting him and even killed one oscar by barbing him during a fight, but i bought the channel cat at like 3 inches and at just under a year he has about 18-20 inches. so they do grow fast, as far as meds i never had luck with meds, but in one occasion one of my flatheads got sick and i dosed the tank with salt and done a 50% water change everyday and he did well.

is it common for there to be territorial disputes between different types of
catfish? or is normally between the same species, my RTC, TSN, RTCxTSN
literally all hide in the same flowerpot without problems at all,
does the territorial-ness come with size and age normally?
all three of my cats are under 1 foot, and both my channels are
around 6''

Agreed, im not going to do bullhead at all, but I have bought a
3'' blue cat, from a company in Iowa along side the mississippi,
which should be here thursday I have to go to the airport
to pick it up. Came out to 65 including shipping.

Total I will be keeping
RTC
TSN
RTCxTSN
2 Local Wild Caught Channel
1 Wild Caught Blue catfish.
