We're talking about an Oscar. Oscars usually don't care when food enters the tank. They pounce it, lights on or off. It's worth a try, but try the zucchini-smuggling method, too. My Oscar is the greediest hog in the tank and it gets food past him.
Stupid italics I can't fix...

your Oscar can see in the dark?

He doesn't need to. He hears me coming, smells the food and snaps it right up. My house is never completely dark, either. Even with all the lights out I can see my fish. I live near a street light. So, I guess in complete darkness (if you can achieve it) it might work to feed at night.

In this case I wonder if one can leave the light off for a little while first. I do this when I need to move fish - turn off the light for half and hour then net them out. Most fish would be sound asleep at that point, but the plecos are still out and about.

I have the lights set to go off at 10PM and drop the wafers in before I go to bed about 11, I don't have O's but I imagin it would work with them too. Like Peat said let the O's fall a sleep, the plecos are out prowling the tank by that time.

We bought some. Light still gets through. :( But so far I've been able to work around it without major issues.

My two Oscar's just chew it a spit it out. My pelco just eats what was spit out from the Oscar
