well it is possible, as ive heard when they start to die they start acting odd.... my one heater i just plugged it in when it set at 78deg, and my tank is at 82deg and the heater turned on, which it really shouldnt..... and my left one i plugged it in as well when it was set at 78deg and the tank was 82 it didnt turn on ??......

Where in Ontario are you?
I wish it was that hot where I am.....then I wouldn't have to pay to heat my tank:)

ive also read you can re calibrate the ehiem jeager heaters.... but i havent got a clue how to do so ...

i have 2-250watt ehiem jager fully sumbmersable 16" heaters....

I would take the lid off and go to home depot or something and get some bird netting to cover the tank so they don't flop out and then get a fan to clip on the side of the tank to help cool it off. but with those fish you have in the tank i would worry if it gets a little warm in there. if its a constant problem they do make fish tank coolers...more of a cooling fan specifically made to clip on a fish tank. if you want to throw some money at it they actually make inline and canister type water conditioners (AC for your fish basically), the fish live in better conditions than i do.

ya i wouldnt want the tank to get really any warmer thrn 84 IMO..... i wonder tho if maybe the heaters need to be re calibrated.... seems odd that my heaters will turn on when i plug them in when there set at 78 and my tank is at 82, one heater turns on and the other one doesnt, makes me wonder if maybe the one heater starting to die ....

I always unplug my heaters in summer, and I'm about the same longitude as Toronto.
And yes, 1 of your heaters could be stuck in the on position, but didn't you say you unplugged them?
Power heads also create heat, as do the lights. If you don't have live plants, you could leave the lights off until you want to observe the fish.
And small fans, like the ones in computers are available, that could be placed on the tank.

i have the lights on a timer 2pm to 915pm but last few days i have just left the lights off as the t5ho dual bulb creates a decent amount of heat (white/blue bulbs).... and yes the heaters are unplugged as of now and will likely stay unplugged until i see the temp drop on my thermometre and yes the thermometre is working lol
