Keeping turtles with cichlids & bichirs.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He had the ornate for ages ( I'm not sure how long exactly ) along with other bichirs. It had been attacking the others and he needed to get rid before his new ones arrived. If i hadn't of taken it he definitely would have put it in a bucket. The turtles were an idea because there cool, i posted on here to find out if i could have them in my tank & get some information before i just went out and bought one. The above comment has provided that information for me so thanks for that. (:

may I ask what a troll is? google gives lot of answers not sure which one it means on here lol!

I think the tank looks fine for the time being, sure soon it will look bad but i have seen a lot worst and fully understand where your coming from with the bucket idea too many times have I spoken to people who wanted a new fish couldn't sell or get rid of the old fish (most likely did not try very hard to do so also) and killed it or threw it in a bucket giving it a low chance at life so good on you for at least giving it something better then an hammer in the head or a bucket.

as for your turtles I am no expert here but my local LFS keeps turtles with the jardini and some with the platys etc they range in size but I do believe it is possible to keep them with other fish just believe a larger tank is required and your stocking would have to be chosen carefully!

Anyways best of luck and hope you find a new home for those fish soon.

Besides the obvious issues, the short answer is, "No, you can't add a turtle to that aquarium because it is too small for most turtles, and the vast majority of turtles will kill & eat your fishes. There are a few turtles that might work, but most of them require a larger aquarium and/or are rare/expensive."
