Since summer is beginning and the weather is getting hot, my aquarium's water is routinely getting to about 84F (29C). Obviously I turned off the heaters, but aside from literally putting ice into the tank how can I keep the water at a lower temp long term?

Do you have a sump? If so it would be easy to install a fan and connect it to a controller. You could do it without the sump too, but having it in the stand would be out of the way and look nice

What fish are you keeping that you need cooler water for and how much cooler do you want it?

All SA/CA cichlids. Oscar, EBJD, Blood Parrot, Green Terror. I would like to get it just under 80. Isn't 84 approaching dangerous water temps for these guys?

A few years back I had a tropical pond on my porch with SA/CA fish in it and summer temps stayed pretty much like that most of the year. Your biggest issue would be oxygen as there is less as the water warms. How hot is the room gettting where the tank is? Your best bet might be ac for cooling and humidity.

I was in a pet store the other day and saw a fan that mounted on the top of the tank and blew air across the water and claimed a 2-4 degree drop... Not sure how accurate that is, but I don't remember it being very expensive.
