Kelberi- keep alone or in a shoal?

Ok cichla gang, your advice please. My LFS has a lone Kelberi for sale, many of the p bass tanks I see have multiple cichla. How are they kept alone or do they do best in a school? tankmates would be bichirs and gar

You can keep them solo, they don't have to be in a group.

I have kept solo pbass with dats, bichirs, and clown loaches before. You will have no issue keeping fast by itself. However cichla will probably tell you to keep it in a shoal.

Either solo or a group of 3 or more. More if you have room of course. I've made the mistake of buying two in case one would die when I really needed one only. One of them became more dominant than the other and kept on chasing the other in the top corner of the tank. My suggestion with kelberi is to buy a bunch of juvies and keep the better looking ones, especially with Bahia.
