How big does a Kelberi get?

The taxonomic description has it maxing out at ~10", but 12-14" in aquaria are more common than not, and one guy on MFC had his up to 17-18". Cichla get big.

Thanks for the info.

I know Cichla get big, really big. But I've always heard that Kels stay smaller than most. Also heard they are more aggressive, any thoughts?

Plus those sizes have been debunked time and time again. There are many kels out there in the 20" range.

x2 I agree 18-20" is more realistic. FunWow's kels that he sold last year were all around 18".

My largest kel is around 13-15" and isn't even 2yrs yet.

In the long run, it's probably fair to expect cichla to meet or exceed 18" as a baseline. We keep their water pristine, their food quality ideal, and their food delivery regular. We strive to, anyway.

Thanks, I will be receiving a Kel this friday, glad I won't have to worry about tank size for at least 1-1.5 years, he will be fine in the 125g for a while :)
