So this morning i wake up to what i thought was a dead kelberi. After posting on another thread here about it, i go to fish him out and hes still kicking. It appeared that he was having difficulty breathing and the blood vessels in his fins were starting to show.

I immediatly started to assist him in breathing by positioning him in front of the filter output. Once he started to struggle and show signs of a fight i changed the current to an airstone. After some slight improvement i debated on wether or not to transfer him into the med tank, and ultimately decided to move him. So there he sits propped up by an airstone. I really hope he pulls through. Dosed lightly with salt and the temp in the med tank is the same as the growout at 88 degrees.

Heres the stats of the 20g long growout tank:
Params: 0 amm/ 0 Nit/ 10 Nitrates
Temp 88 degrees
Tankmates: growout C. Temensis and what looks like a mono/hybrid.
Filtration: 2 internal marineland duettos and a Marinland 60 hang on back.
Water changes are done thru a continous drip changing about 5g a day 7 days a week.
Diet: bloodworms, chopped up tilapia, feeder guppies and rosies.

The 2 other bass are perfectly healthy and i never noticed any aggresion towards the kelberi, only that he wasnt as aggressive of an eater than the other two.

I've had the kelberi for a few months now.

Any advice or suggestions for helping this guy pull thru are more than welcome.

No advice, but I'm pulling for it.

Thanks boss!

Latest update, his breathing looks to be much better and the visible red streaks in his fins look to be dissipating. I forgot to mention that his eyes were clouded over and are now becoming visible again. Hoping these are all good signs.

now for the long stretch, i have to leave to work soon. This is just as bad as when my D. Pulcher was sick and i had to leave to Germany for a few days.

BEST OF LUCK BRO!!!!!

lol just bad luck i guess.. its happened to me but Not to my Kelberi lol(thanks god) what size is he?but i hope he pulls through man.. GL

I'm honestly not trying to be an ass......

A 20g unless it's for fry, is not a sufficient growout tank for cichla. The drip changer makes a little difference, but IMO still not enough. I used to grow cichla out in 20's and 30's, but it's just not sufficient space or water volume. Get them all more space.

I understand where your coming from, and believe me the 20 g is just until they hit the 3" mark to where they are big enough for the 265. This is how i've been doing all my cichla and the first stage (20g) is very temporary so no worries...well acutally, the since the 265 is down (sprung a leak over thanksgiving weekend) they will be moved into the 220 with a divider.
