Kelberi peacock bass tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
3x kelberis will be fine in a 180g. Needs to be properly filtered and watch water perimeters and do water changes when necessary. I breed certain species of bass in 120's. 4x2x2. also watch for aggression issues.

I have a mono, two azuls and am about to add two kelberi and a xingu into an 800g.

It's been my plan for a year or so and the kelberi and xingu have been in a grow out attempting to get big enough not to be eaten by the others. The closer I get to the point of putting them all together the clearer it is to me that it's too much for that size tank. Add to the mix that they're pretty feisty and it doesn't make it any easier.

bassinmike85 bassinmike85 Would a FX6 qualify as good filtration, 180G with 3 kels, do I need to add more filtration? Thinking like at least 60% water changes every week or other week if I can squeeze it. Heavily wooded, no live plants but may add if that would help keep water changes down to 2 week stretches

What I have found is that the stress caused by the other fish is the bigger concern in a smaller tank for kels. I had a breeding pair in a 235 gallon. They were great for a few years then after about 5 years the male had health problems. Going through the videos of them growing up. The male dominated years 1-about 3. Then the female became more assertive. Not necessarily dominate.
In summary, I don't think it's as much about filtration and water changes as many people think. It's about the comfort and stress level that a tank size provides.
So now I am down to 2 fish in a 235 gal tank. The female kel and a jurupari. Both 7+ years old and both thriving.
And still this 235 gal is a small tank IMHO for any type of bass.

I have a full grown male kelberi in my 9x3x2.5' tank, The Kelberi is 17" long, very thick and powerful. I am starting to think the tank is too small for him because when he goes for food or has a blast about the tank he makes a wave he's such a big powerful fish.

I wouldn't recomend a full grown one in a 7ft anyway

540 min ,at least or more .....remember they look cool large tanks .......check out fish story's new post ......amazing 4500 gallon lol .......12x4x4 1400 is about right ....

not big tanks is always the answer. i kept 2 kelberis perfectly fine in a 90g even 120's just depends on the individual fish.
