Just stunning!

How big? Looks to have some amazing colouration for the size.

Gorgeous fish!! I love the body spots!!

This is why the genre is so damn confusing though. I have no doubt that these are kelberi but where is the spotting on the ventral and anal fins?

What are the chances you can get pics of the vents?
The spot changes because of the coloring matter relation of the body.
The type with thick coloring matter tends to look few the spot.

you can see some spots on their fins from next photos.

Here are some more( sorry for not good photo quality because of black water)

1000 + 1 PM sent.

Question: I know the spotting in anal fin was one of the characteristics that defines kelberi, but have you seen any kelberi-like pbass without those spotting?? ... I guess they wouldn't be called kelberi in that case.

I do believe there are many neutrals species between Monoculus and Kelbri type in some region.
Especially I have found them around lower Tocantins and Araguaia range.

IMO, the spot on the fins is not key to find out ID any more.
Holo type of Kelberi was from rio Tocantins. But those similar Cichlas have been collected in Orinoco and Negro basin. All of kelberi type from South and east Brazil are discharge fish....

very nice
