So, I rescued 6 gigantic kellets whelks from a local asian market. So far, they are occasionally moving around the tank, but have no interest in eating. Any tips to getting them to eat? Anyone know what their temperature requirements are, or any other tips to keeping whelk?

Assuming they are "True" whelks they are carnivorus... so I would say feed them chunks of fish or shellfish.

Yeah, they are true whelk. So far, I have offered smelt, and shrimp. No real interest in either. I also threw in a few live clams/mussels if they want to go after those. I'm guessing they are pretty stressed, as they were in a big pile out of water at the market.

Your probably right about the stress then, though its also possible that the water parameters aren't ideal, as there are so many Whelks that it's possible some of them are "cold" water verieties (relatively cold I mean...) but its extreamly difficult to find deltailed info on snales, let alone getting a 100% ID (due to similarities between them). Oh, Whelks also eat other snails. Here is an IDing page for whelks, maybe figure out exactly which one with it in an attempt to figure tailor parms/feeding to that veriety. http://www.gastropods.com/Taxon_pages/Group_Whelk.shtml

I'm almost 100% sure they are kellets whelks. Semi local, looks identical, and harvested for food.

If they are Kellet's like you say (I shall take your word for it) they pray on snails and tube worms activly, but will scavenge a wide veriety of other items as well.

Well, I just picked up a bunch of live nickel sized periwinkles from the same market, so hopefully they'll try eating those.
