Kens's Fish food?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My rtc's like the 9 mm sinking pellets and my cichlids like the 5.5mm premium pellets.

Well it got here yesterday afterall. The only freeze-dried package I've opened so far are the earthworms...and the lima shovelnose didn't hesitate to go after them :headbang2 Seemed just as excited as with hikari bloodworms/brine shrimp. Its nice because they are bigger than the bloodworms, so I don't have to overfeed to make sure the lima gets plenty (the silver dollars go nuts over the bloodworms too and are aggressive eaters). They'll still pick off the smaller scraps of earthworms, but the bigger pieces are a bit much...leaving them for the LSN :D

I like the replacement emperor filter cartridges so far...won't be able to review them for a couple months though...to see how long they last, and if the padding is fine enough to keep small particles out of the water. They have less carbon than the rite-size E packs, but thats expected (and some people don't even use carbon I hear).

The order came with a free sample of his mini veggie no carb discs :D Haven't used it yet but thats good business...I will definately order again when I need more food/supplies.

Thanks, gonna go ahead and order some.

Well I finally opened the free sample pack of his mini no carb veggie discs...and its the first food my silver dollars don't seem to like. They do love Ken's Spirulina wafers though and freeze-dried earthworms. I still haven't opened the brine shrimp/blood worms that I have from Ken's, because I've changed how I plan to stock the tank and don't have carnivores right now (except plecos).

After having time to review them, I wouldn't recommend Ken's brand replacement cartridges (for the emperor/penguin models). The frame is flimsy and after a couple weeks will dislodge from the slot it fits into, which then pushes against the bio-wheel and keeps it from turning, as well as not doing its job (water then passes BY it, rather than through it once it dislodges).

Sometime in the next few weeks I plan to order Ken's sinking Earthworm sticks and Brine Shrimp sticks (for my carnivorous plecos).

I have the earthworm sticks. My Catfish, oscars, and GT loved it. I feed them to the catfish daily.

Ordered from ken:

Pellets packaged great
Rays too awhile getting use to them, but eventually ate them.
These pellets are messy compared to massivore pellets
Good price.

I would recommend

Yeah it took my bichirs a bit to take to the no carb pellets, but now they'll eat them right along with the hikari stuff.

Please let me know how the f/d stuff is, I'm thinking of trying the krill depending on what I hear about the other f/d food.

I recommend all Ken's FD food, crazy growth with my fish on FD earthworms and krill:headbang2

My fish must be super picky. I would say the first feeding only about 10% of my fish ate any of it. They are all Hikari snobs. Given the current volatile state of my tanks I cannot afford to starve them onto the Kens. I will be paying for ultra premium Hikari. For the price of two bags of 16 oz hikari food I was able to get 10-12 bags of Kens food. Wish my fish would have taken it right off the bat. :(
