Kevin's Planiceps/RTC Journey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
why did your first RTC die anyhow?

Pulling out a fish especially a catfish really puts the unnecessary stress on them, I just put my plecos in a clear container and do ruler below the container to get the exact measurements once in a while maybe every 9 months or so. That's still stressful on them.

I can't imagine you trying to wrestle a thick 24'' RTC to get the "dry measurements" safely with their fins/spines not getting damaged in the process. Fishing for catfish in the wild is even hard on 24'' channel cats I catch, no way in heck you can keep them from hurting themselves.

Put a pre-measured PVC pipe in and when he goes in you'll get the idea of his size and switch em out when he grows... there are many other ways to do this. I know for sure that I don't want any of my prized cats touching any surface in my house that has been touched with cleaning products.

Cheers and good luck!

I caught a big channel catfish last night :) He stayed in the water and then broke my line. :( I'm guessing he was about 20". Too big to play with PEpper :)

Lol there's always next time! :headbang2

Update: Milton is a solid almost 5" now, and Muffy 6"+ they are on a diet of fillet and gutloaded quarentined feeders. Should be moving into the 55 by next week. Planning on picking up a RTCxTSN next week too...will get some pics up tomorrow.

k what ever still dont like it
******ing stupid thing to do, almost as dumb as showing fish, just moving from tank to tank can kill at times.
Measure it when it dies (and is at its longest) take pics whatever, if its not world record size why do you need an accurate measure any way-i think most people wont mind if you tell them a fish is 3 feet and it turns out to be 35in.

The kitties are looking good, glad to see you finally got the planiceps!!

Your rtc makes me want to get another, I miss having a sociable catfish in the tank.
