I am considering making a koi pond for the patio of my apartment. I've heard of people using the plastic kidding pools or even like the professional holding tanks. These tend to be cheap (less than $100) so I want to know if this is a reasonable way to keep koi? I've kept koi before but only in an aquarium which I felt they outgrew. How hard would a pool/holding setup be? how would I filter it?

kiddie pools are too shallow and will or eventually crack...

heres an idea for a pond filter i come up with
ive kept koi in a vat that holded 500g that size is perfect for keeping a few koi they are quite easy to keep conpared to in ground ponds but youve still got to put a fear amount of work in but its well worth it

yea that is a good point youve got to choose carfally as some are to shallow but you can get a nice deep one if you shop around

You should be fine, but you'll need a lot of gallonage.

Might be better off getting a Rubbermaid bin for livestock. They make em up to 1000 gallons, and they are very sturdy.

Good luck!

patio area i take it means your on the ground floor? if not consult if your patio balcony can hold that much weight for a rubbermaid stock bin. and is it a violation of your lease agreement to have a "pond" even if its a portable one at your apartment things to check before you buy everything.
