Kiddie pool instead of tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you go the way of the kiddie pool, try putting a 1" styrofoam insulation sheet underneath it, then some spray foam from that and all the way to the foam. not only will it insulate but it will also stiffen up the sides a bit. Consider also that you will be looking at the fish from the top, so go for some lighter colored sand(perhaps even white) to pump up the contrast with your fish.

you may want to look up ebay for all sorts of containers and pools. I recently purchased an 8' diameter intex pool for $60 that already comes with a filter that Im going to use just to circulate the water. too big for your application unless you're going to get more/bigger fish. Your pleco might want some more room later on too.

anyways, to each his own! hope to see some pictures of what you decide to do

I was thinking of doing something like this as well... but with fry for either my Piranhas(if I get them to breed) or convicts and use the kiddie pool to grow them out, until I could sell them or re-home them.
Keep us updated on what happens and what equipment you decide to use :D

Well, if I could fit the pool in my tiny Mustang, I would go out and buy it right now, lol!
My plants need the deeper pool, I have a little green pool, but it's not tall enough.
I may set that one up for now though, so I can sell the 55g.
Let me know if any of you want a 55g, $60.

I don't know much about using a kiddie pool, but I know a lot of pond folks use the Intex pools for temporary and quarantine tanks. Intex has stated they are fish safe.

I should've been more clear. The ones I am talking about use PVC for the frame. They're only 8' or 10' in diameter and 3' tall. They can be found at the end of swimming season for less than $100. Much cheaper than the 300g stock tank I bought, but I wanted the puncture resistance of the stock tank.

Yea, I have a pleco, so not sure if he will chew through the pool or not.

Moved them into the tiny kiddie pool, pics in a few.

Intex makes some cheap small outdoor pools, the smallest model which is around 1.1k goes for about 99$ at target. If you keep "sharp" fish in it, such as rays or plecos, or just to be on the safe side, you may want to add some pond liner over it.

ohhh pics!! iv thought about using one and gettin a few bagarius bagarius ;)
