On Wendsday night my youngest daughter decided to do a very good impression of someone dying...que panic and mass hysteria (why is it always at night?). Shes fine now though pretty ill. Word of advice, dont catch chicken pox AND tonsilitus and have a 40 degree fever at the same time...its crap! I am still stressed now after getting a panicy call from the hospital nurse telling me to get there as quickly as I could! What a first birthday!

Well thursday all was calm except our nerves, so their was only one way we could think to calm down...WORLD OF WATER!!!!! Luch in the cafe, look at the fish...always helps, lol!

Well, I ended up buying an Oscar that had been put into isolation for nearly killing the other three oscars in its tank! I thought hey he'll do fine with the cons in the kiddy pool! I also got a trio of Uaru and two rams for my Amazon Tank and two gorgeous Angels for my Daughters tank so shes got something new to look at!

But I had forgotten the main reasons for not buying new fish...1. Filtration is not really large enough yet. 2 pools not heated yet...its at 19 degrees C which is enough for the Cons. Not sure about an oscar though. Got home and chucked all my spare heaters in the pool and waited...and waited...and waited...Takes a while hey! After a few hrs it had reached 20 but the oscar had to go in cause hed been in his bag too long, and my brothers oscar was okay at 20! In he went...happy as larry.

Got up this morning and the pool was at 25 degrees C. Do you think I have a condensation problem? Those are Icicles...from the condensation forming INSIDE the windows, running down to the bottom of the glass pane THEN RUNNING UNDER THE GAP BETWEEN THE GLASS AND THE FRAME TO FORM AN ICICLE OUTSIDE!!!! I've been complaining for months that the windows are crap! Now I have proof! How about that for a DIY dehumidifier!

nice looking pool
any idea on how many gallons it holds?
i like the little viewing windows anyone know where to find one like that in the USA?
good luck with the pool i had 1 but it started leaking
sorry to hear about your daughter hopfully she has a good immune system
good thing you can only get chicken pox once in your life after that you'll never have it again.

Theres a guy who posted on the start of this thread in the DIY section who is from the states and has an almost entirely see through pool...looks cool. I'll post the make of this pool later as I they're based in california, though its all made in CHINA!

There are ~177gallons in it now, max it can go to is stated as 260, plus 55 for the filter tub giving max theoretical of 315, but it will be well under this in reality!

Took your advice Dr. Joe, looked at the pond pumps...they were loadsa money for crappy ones yesterday, but by chance found a place selling their big pond pumps off cheap, cause we live in suburbia and every one has small ponds. The 2000 gallon an hour pumps were LESS than the 1000gallon an hour ones. Still expensive, I had to choke back the bile paying 70 squid ($140), but it has a max head of 5.5 meters (18 feet). They wanted this for pumps lifting to 3 foot in the other place!!! I was just gonna stuff it and buy a central heating pump, as they pump a 5.5m head. This pond pump was more expensive, but close enough to justify not fiddling about. And this pump is MADE IN THE UK! Tough to find that these days!

Would like to use Lava rock but have never seen it for sale here...I'll have an ask around see if anyone knows where to get it!

Hope the little one is doing well, kids can be scary at times.hen mine was little we spent 4 Thanksgivings in a row in the hospital, started to look like a trend...glad she grew out of it :D .

Check garden centers and landscapers for the lava rock.

Keep up the good work,

Dr Joe

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhh.....................ITS POPPED!!!!! My bull terrier decide to try and bite one of the fish THROUGH the window....little bugger....Got all the fish out safetly but now I'm wet and Knackered. Had just sectioned of an area for the small fish to get refuge from the cons and oscar, fitted a cover made of polythene sheet like the poly tunnels...it was cool cause it still let the light in so you could view through the windows still. I also fitted the pump and was in the process of putting up some gutter to use to grow stuff in till my baby clouds were big enough to move....So near yet SO FAR!!!

Tommorrows mission...find a replacement pond quickly and cheaply before the cons or oscar become casualties...(they're all in the 55 gallon sump!!!)

So SAD!....and the culprit!:banhim:

i agree

That sucks!!! Maybe build a OSB or PB frame around it and cover it up when your not around? I would kick my dogs arse if they did that

This is just fantastic...today I got up and my oscar had jumped in the night! No signs of life but went through the motions of moving him in highly oxygenated water, and low and beyhold hes started breathing! Just been nurseing him for the last 2 hrs...not sure if hes gonna make it...hes either dying or playing dying...hes been learning a trick or two off my daughter!!!! His eyes had dropped and were pointing at the floor for hrs, now hes breathing less but his eyes are back in the normal position, hence he might be playin' now...dont know, hope so...just leave him in the hospital bucket and let nature take its course...cross you fingers for me!
