Hey everyone, Just curious if any of you have had Kidney Stones (calcium) and what you were told to do to help break down the stones or calcium that was left in your kidney/s??

I had one 3 years ago, then one two weeks ago and another today. Not sure why I have such high calcium build up b/c I stopped eating/drinking what the last doctor told me to. I will be seeing a doctor again. I did however talk to some people who have had them before and told me orange juice, water, real lemonade, cranberry juice and beer are all helpful in passing and breaking up calcium and stones, so just thought I'd ask what you all were told??

Never had them but I hope you feel better!

I was alway told if you don't drink a lot of water you get them.

I'm sorry your getting them. I'm always scared I'm going to get one. Hope things work out with the new doctor

There are five types of kidney stones:

1. Calcium phosphate stones are common and easily dissolve in urine acidified by vitamin C.

2. Calcium oxalate stones are also common but they do not dissolve in acid urine.

3. Magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite stones) are much less common, often appearing after an infection. They dissolve in vitamin C acidified urine.

4. Uric acid stones result from a problem metabolizing purines (the chemical base of adenine, xanthine, theobromine [in chocolate] and uric acid). They may form in a condition such as gout.

5. Cystine stones result from a hereditary inability to reabsorb cystine.

Increase fluid intake, if you wait till your thirsty it's too late...
( water, red wine and coffee!) No cola drinks

Increase insoluble fiber

Hope this helps !

Does it hurt as much as the men describe it when it passes through your system? According men who had it, "Its the closest thing to child birth."

The urinary track is far different, and I know just having a UTI(urinary track infection) hurt really bad and I wont compare that to when I gave birth to my son, along with a cathider(sp) Far different. I can't even imagine having to pass one.

sorry ash hope you feel alot better soon!

i didn't know you had children! kntrygrl4lyfe.....i honestly thought you was about 14years old.

I had one several years ago. Passed it while at the hospital. Not sure what it was made of, but it sure hurt. My family doctor told me to cut back on dairy consumption; I used to drink a lot of milk and ate too much ice cream. I rarely eat ice cream now and drink less milk. I don't want another one. Hope you feel better.

Although I have never had a kidney stone, I feel your pain and worse, considering I have had around 4-5 catheters in my life, and I'm only 17:eek:
