The only problem with that is you never know when the power will go out and if you use only battery pumps the batteries would get expensive. Plus you never know when battery will die when you are gone for the day.

They only run on battery once the power cuts out, when the power is on they use AC power.

I have some battery powered pumps for just such an occasion... Except that they're there and I'm here... What a terrible feeling. I hope everything will be fine, and that all of my equipment starts up fine when they do get the power going. I know on some of my older filters they need to be re-primed when they've been off for a length of time.

BTW thanks for your concern everyone. :) I'm hoping for the best.

Apparently it may be another 2 hours before the power is on, which will make a total of 5 hours. I don't know if that is something to be concerned about or not.

don't worry to much, tanks can go atleast 24hrs or a bit more without air or circulation or heat.

my pump/heaters went out for almost 3 days. everyone was fine. btw my tanks are heavily stocked with very very large fish. i even fed them normally without the power

That does make me feel better, at least its summer time so I don't have to worry about heat in a Wisconsin winter. haha. I've had the power go out in the winter before and it doesn't take that long for the house to get cold. Only a matter of hours.

that sucks, but nothing too terrible should happen in less than a day, maybe stress but hopefully nothing major, good luck

yeah i wouldnt worry about it to much, but when everything starts up again your fish might go nuts. my power went out for 3 hours and everyone was fine but when it started back up andall the filters started making their noise and stuff they all went coo coo for coco pufs:nilly:

I hope your fish are ok, ive had 5 cichlids die over night from leaving my airstone turned off due to me feeding them and forgeting to plug it back in,

if the heaters off then it shouldnt be cause to worry

more heat needs more surface agitation to oxygen

no heat no need for extra agitation :)
