Howdy people.

The issue is like this:

Yesterday my alligator snapper caught a big minnow, about 1/3 of the turtle's size itself, he cut it down into two pieces and swalloed the whole thing...

Now in the morning when I woke up went to see my turts and saw him baskin.

I he looks normal though I am worried because my gator snapper never baskins and I am thinking there might be something wrong with him...:nilly:

I would like to know about your experience regarding this matter.

Wait for your imput boys.....

They bask... you just dont see it often
Maybe he's just trying to digest the meal a bit faster by basking

How warm is your tank water? Perhaps it just wants some extra heat to digest the large meal.

Hi.

I dont think temp is a factor in this case since tank temp is about 27-28.

Cheers.

Hi. Shells-n -Scales.

That is exactly the same way he is, thanks for your comment you make me feel more calm I haven seen my gator snapper basking before but as you say it is not common however they do.

By the way I know you, you are member of fororeptiles. com in mexico arent you?.

It is good to see you here too.

Cheers.

Did you read my reply on the snappers show tread?;) And this is yet another reason why you should avoid feeder fish, specialy on smaller turtles. Your lucky that this is a snapper, a softshell turtle can die because it has a too big of a meal specialy something complex to digest like a big fish. In general small turts should be fed often and litle at a time to improve digestion. It is specialy crittical on turtles like softshells and matamatas. Fingers crossed every thing should be good with your snapper however i would be worried because its not normal:confused:

Are thouse yours? A reason that snapper may be "basking" is to avoid conflict with the other 2, snappers are NOT comunal turtles, they are territorial and agressive turtles that should be kept alone, specialy males. Also that turt shell seems a bit deformed:confused: Can be lack of calcium

Hi Coura.

I've already read your input in the other section and made you a question there.

Cheers.
