King kamfa flowerhorn

I think you should open a new thread if you haven’t already. My experience is limited and success is even more limited in the parasite field. Goodluck I hope he makes it. And also pictures would really help when it comes to sick fish so any pictures of the fish and your concerns with the fish will help get a faster response.

I don't know how to make a new thread

Need help again my 3" flowerhorn is sick with parasite. He is pooping white and it's always long and his stomach is big. He hasn't been eating and he is starting to breath heavy. I treated the tank with lavemisole HCI twice i have taken the carbon out. The first time i did it he really didn't poop, and the 3 days pass and he looked the same, but then he stared pooping more, but today i put more levamisole. Any suggestion what should I do. I heard about clear? But i don't know if I should try it because he is very tiny and I don't know if I can find that tube or something to fit his tiny mouth and i heard about Herbtana. Please help

He has Hex.

I've used Clear with good results but an even better and less evasive treatment is epsom salt.

I trick I have done when treating hex(I had an angel who hadnt eaten for a month) was to take freeze dried bloodworms and soak them in epsom salt. Take a tablespoon of epsom salt and dissolve it in a minimum amount of water, then soak the freeze dried bloodworms in them for 15 minutes. I had all but given up on the angel. It wouldnt even try to eat frozen bloodworms, but one night I was feeding some of my tanks some freeze dried bloodworms and threw some in for the heck of it. The angel still didnt completely eat them, but it did at least chew and spit them unlike any other food. Thats when I came up with the epsom salt soak idea.

Another thing I have done when the fish will only eat bloodworms was to take frozen blood worms, let them thaw, then with paper towel soak up a majority of the bloody liquid. Then sprinkle in general cure and mix it to a pink paste and dump it into the tank.

If it's waste is long and white, and his stomach is enlarged, it could be a tapeworm. Finish the Levamisole treatment (all newly imported FH should be dewormed) and see if that improves things. If not, then proceed with treatment for Spironucleus aka Hexamita. Both internal parasites (spiro/hex)and worms are very common in FH that have been raised on bloodworms in Asia.

Once your fish is eating I would highly recommend feeding NLS Hex-Shield for 3-5 days. It's a very nutrient dense medicated feed that will help clean your fish out and get him back onto the right track. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=30015

FYI - I trained all of my imported juvie FH to eat pellets by pre-soaking their pellets in frozen BW juice. Feed a few pellets once each AM when fish are most hungry, then once it is eating slowly wean them off the BW juice, and start feeding dry.

Good luck.
