Youll be fine with 300 yards of 30# braid.

Ok good because i dont want to go and get spooled and lose 30 dollars worth of line on the first run.

It's usually a good idea to use about 10yds of some heavy mono as a top shot because you want to be able to keep the King from running up under the pilings on the pier where it will cut you off in a heartbeat.

Trolley rigs are by far the best way to fish for kings off the pier, by the way. Your best bet is to research the equipment you will need beforehand, and then find someone out on the pier who is experienced to show you how it's done.

Another tip. If your fish is heading under the pier, dont tighten up on him and try and horse him out. Instead, open your bail and freespool. The king will naturally want to head out to open/deeper water, away from the pier.

Youll have to check the rules though, but along the Emerald Coast, trolley rigs are banned at pretty much all the piers.

well i dont mind i was just thinking i might have to do it if i didnt have a setup with an adequate amount of line i would have to switch to my dad's big water reels.

How'd you do?

Kings have been on fire around here lately.

There werent that many kings the two days i went on the pier. I think it was the fact of there was a bunch of wind and the water was real choppy. A lot of bonito though, i caught 1 the first day with like 5 three foot long remoras and a big spanish mackerel. Yesterday i got 3 bonito and another bunch of remoras. There was also a 6 person bonito hook up and all of them ended up in the same corner of the pier. Also there were 2 big tarpon hook ups. Im a little disapointed about the kings but bonito put up a good fight and are tasty raw so im happy.

Bonito are really good raw? How do you prepare? I saw the pics of all the bonito from PCB last night, looked fun!

I just got back from Navarre pier, pretty dead today, a couple of kings in the six hours I was there and that was it. TONS of juvi (8-10") spanish with a few mixed in. I sacrificed about 5 gotchas to the fish gods cause every time Id get a decent spanish, the smaller ones would grab my swivel and cut me off!

With bonito and pretty much any tuna you should as soon as you catch it bleed and clean it and then stick it in an ice and water slurry. Shoot the whole 2 days i was at the pier i only saw like 4 spanish mackeral hit the pier. I was fishing the couty pier because i had heard it had less of a remora problem but when i got there i saw schools of them just waiting for cigar minnows. I also saw alot remoras get sliced, baked, curb stomped, and skewered.
