earlier today my male ob peacock and a female peacock locked up. I am not sure what to think it looked like they were attacking each other but I do not know for sure. They were mouth to mouth and stayed like that for a a min or so before stopping and then went to different parts of the tank. I have watched both males in my tank come up and do a lil shake which i think is a mateing ritual. I am just a lil worried about them as I dont want them to kill each other.

they looked like this

tail heads tail
>---(.}{.)---<

it really looked like they were trying to eat each other but i hope not.

it's a dominance thing cichlids only will do it's kinda like get off my yard kinda thing/show who's boss feeding rights etc. If they do this often u might want to add more décor to give more territitories like caves, rockwork, plants anything to cut off view of each other as much as possible maybe a tank upgrade if that doesn't work if u say u got a female so maybe there doing this for breeding rights(males) and the mouthfighting because the female doesnt like his fishy bod and doesn't want to breed? Sure it's a female? Some even add more fish to give more targets I like to not stack but add a couple if I see needed what's ur tank maybe mfk and I could help if that don't work

I would question whether the fish in the fight were actaully a male and a female. Are you sure you don't just have a male in sub-dominant coloring? Here's a picture of a couple of my Vics stressing.

thats what they were doing that exact picture. I guess they could both be males but I am not sure. here is a pic of the two that were doing that.
