KKP?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Roger and co at petzone San Diego are great to work with also, let them know what you want and maybe they can help you out. Their kkp have always had some variation, regular bp to kkp and all in between, but the really kkp ones usually end up nice.

Everyone uses the term mammon, most are KKP, some maybe SKKP. See threads below.....

This is a red mammon from Happy Breed Farm in Taiwan. You won't find these on eBay. And if you did, selling price would be well over 1K.

Like I said, every man and his dog now uses those terms to market their parrot fish. Caveat Emptor

You won't typically find these on eBay.

Your parrots are nice. There's some gorgeous crystal parrots for sale on Ebay. You can buy one or the whole batch of 10 for $480 it is I think? Looks like texas hybrid mix, but have the classic parrot shape.

Happy farms is pretty much their own trademark for their type of parrots with stable gene pools. So you get consistent fish. Have no idea how many other places source the parrot types. To add to the misnomer about parrot types, I've seen really large regular parrots called King Kongs. Since Kongs generally grow larger than the standard parrots its a common confusion. I've been wanting to get my hands on a nice Yuan Bao in both the 'creamsicle' and gold color.

Some parrots have more midas in ancestry (profile, lips). The ones with heavy red devil ancestry tend to look like rose queens...triangular shape head with no 'notch'. Called 'devil parrots' they're a devil/parrot crossed with devil. So instead of 50% devil they're 75% devil and seem to lose the notch...the mouth looks more like a red devils mouth.

when i bought my parrot i paid $34 for it labeled as kkp but i got it really small and it has grown so much in 1 year that is why i asked if it was a kkp and also seeing the hump in his head i was hoping that it was a kkp.

Correct, but even more than that, it's the farm where the terms "red mammon" and "ingot" pretty much originated in the hobby. Lots of farms/vendors have followed on their coat tails, with 10's of thousands of low quality/mediocre fish labeled and sold as same. No different than a Coach purse being sold on eBay, that was not actually made by Coach. The only difference is Coach controls their brand name, and as an intellectual property holder Coach representatives seek out and shut down those selling knock offs.

Caveat Emptor comes into play when buyers such as illbethejudge buy the fish at small sizes, in the hopes that they will somehow magically turn in to a KKP, or Mammon, or Ingot. Many vendors bank on that fact, and advertise 2-3" fish as something that they will never be - or they show pics of their "adult" versions, and then sell fish that will never grow out and look like the fish in the pics. Even the vendor that you linked to, which possibly no fault of his own beyond not knowing better, listed the fish as both mammon, and ingot. That, or in the hope of more views to page. Either way, not a proper description of those two types of BP.

True, I've compared these fish and their gene pools aren't as stable and at times the appearance is unpredictable. True Ingots are very distinctive in their round body shapes, nearly perfect 'geometric balance'. I love 'em but dang, the expense...

You also have smaller breeders who are anxious to get into the market with their own 'type' at lower prices, but you can't rush breeding or genes. Since parrots are hybrids when they destabilize in appearance they really look haywire.

The most comical sale I saw on Ebay was last year when a guy was selling "Tiger Blood Parrots." So I'm like, "What are those?"

Turns out they were parrots that hadn't peeled to their orange color yet.

I fell on the floor laughing, dude wanted $300 for both, selling them as a pair. Basically for a pair of juvenile standard parrots. Cheez.
