Hi, I am looking at a duckbilled knife fish, an elephant nose knife fish, a trumpet nose knife fish, and an arowana knife fish. I would like to know if anyone has kept any of these with polypterus or an irwini catfish. And if you have what was the relationship? did it work out or not? also i'd like to know the max sizes for these fish. Thanks :)

I don't have them I was just wondering If anyone had tried out those combos because whichever combos work i'm gonna get that knife fish or at least try to.

Papyrocrannus afer are there any other knives that would do well with polypterus that can live in a 6x2 footprint?

Yep. I have 22" p. afer with my bichirs I actually have a group of 7 18-22". Other knives that would work are the clown knife, royal knife and asian knife and many other featherbacks. Except the african brown knife can't work with large bichirs. Can work with smaller species though.

I should probably also mention that all my polys are Upper Jaw so almost all of them won't get past 12-14" also what is the max size of the afar? and how fast do they grow?

afers have smaller mouth compare to it's asian cousin also they are not build to swallow larger prey item. Growth slows down at 12-18". As for max captive care grow, 18-24". Downside to p. afer is that they are probably the most aggressive featherbacks.

do you think that aggression would be a problem with my polys? And if I get multiple of them will that even some of the aggression out? also how many (if I had to put more than one in the tank for aggression reasons) could I fit in a 6x2 footprint?
