Knifefish and Mormyrids

I had an african knife (nigri), glass knife, and elephant nose all in one tank for a while. So, as long as your knife isn't very aggressive, I'm sure you could mix them.

In fact, I added the african, then a year later added the elephant, and then a few months later added the glass, which goes to show that african knifes aren't the least bit territorial to other electric fish.

If you want to be on the safe side for fish violence, I'd add all your electric fish at once and then rearrange the scenery (if there's anything else in the tank).

Pipefish are beautiful and interesting fish but can be quite difficult to start feeding! The elephant nose may out-compete the pipe as well as they can be very voracious eaters. You might have to target-feed your pipefish often in order to keep it well-fed. I love mormyrids - they have a lot of character and often can be trained to be hand fed. I wish you all the best with your elephant nose!

i thought african/asian knives were not electric fish at all and weren't even related to south american knives.

south american knives were more closely related to morymids while old worlds are more closely related to arowanas... =\

i kept 5 elephant nose and 2 african knives together for 3 years - no problems at all - would love to see some pics of your biotope!
