Knifefish in tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like Notopterus Notopterus (Black Knifefish). They are known to be the more aggressive of the Chitala species. It's going to be hit or miss. Depending on how big the tank is, how many hiding spots there are, how big they are, etc.

EDIT: Just read you said they were African. At that point, it would be Xenomystus Nigri. However, I see dorsal fins. X. Nigri doesn't have dorsal fins to my recolection. N. Notopterus and X. Nigri look very similar, but differ in color, size, and dorsal fin. Otherwise, they do tend to have the same body shape.

They are not BGKF as its not black, has no white stripe or 2 rings I have a BGKF and they are peaceful-semi-aggressive fish and can be kept with peaceful fish as long as the fish is not too small to fit in its mouth. Guppies, small tetras or danios, shrimp etc. (anything small) semi aggressive fish are a good it like rosy barbs, gourami, discus, ram cichlids, bala sharks, rainbow sharks, clown loach
They look like african brown knives to me or brown ghost knives

We need a side photo to make sure of ID
