Knigefish OK in a hex with smaller fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll still go with angelfish because everything I know is going against what you say but hey if the do get too big they can just go back to the LFS.
No africans no I'm going with Miles's idea.

An African Knife would average about 8" and would be fine with the Angels, but the Neons would be eaten by the Knife and Angel when they get larger. I think Angels would be fine in a 50g Hex tank. For those fish, I think a taller tank is good for them rather than a long tank like most fish. But like Miles said...Centipede or Glass Knives would be great for your tank set up

sweet its on then! :woot: :woot:
And do knives count as monsters?

Ok here is a quote of of a book(compass guide. Tropical Freshwater Aquarium Fish)(its a barrons book) but anyways here is what the profile says angelfish. "Characteristics : lenght up to 6in (15cm) height up to 10 in (25cm)(I was wrong I said 12 in) min gallon 62." See

Angels are well-suited for a tall hexagonal tank like his.. Gallons can be a mis-leading determination of tanksize. He could have a 62g hexagonal tank that is really wide but only 12" tall, and that would not serve as a good home for a full grown angel.

Besides, It will take the Angel quite a while to grow to 6" in length and 10" tall, and in that time, hopefully our fellow MFKer will think about upgrading his tank. :)

W00t I'm getting a monster.
and kody I'm sorry man that really seams off to me, I dont believe everything I read because many books say different things. Like one of my books say neons are nocternal no honestly I really do have a book saying that. I have taken what everyone has said though and I appretiate it.

What do you mean by "upgrading" Miles lol

Angels could live in there for life. But most angels don't get 6 in by 10 inches if they did they would need a bigger tank. Yours will prob get 6 inches tall by 4 inches. If they get really big you will have to upgrade. Most angels just there full potential. Miles I agree but a normal 55 would be a little better than a 50 gallon hex my angel swims all over.

i think this tank would work......i have a community tank with two smokey leopard veil angels, two african browns knives, and some red eyed tetra..........they all get along fine and the angels and knives are much larger then the tetras.......i dont think it will take time for them to eat them either because they have all been together for almost a year............but good luck with the tank.........

Thanks and kody I totally agree. The tetras should be OK. The neons in my 10gal are giant they are big enough to fight an angel off, so it should be OK with growth time.
