Knobhill's 350g Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice! Must be a pain to get to the bottom though, lol!

Since you have it in your home office, do you write it off as buisiness expense. Stress Control. The filler panels look really good.

Haha, my tutoring business is not officially on the books so I can't write it off. My students love the tank though!

amazing. I know you mentioned One Eyed Willy in my thread when I asked about sun cats.

could you post a pic of him? I would love to see the monster.

I will definately post a pic of One-Eyed Willy. Unfortunately, when I swapped the 350g for the 375g, Tigger (The Leorinicus) started beating up on him so he is in a hospital tank the moment. When the 375g is back, Willy will return to the 350g.

Getting to the bottom of the tank must be tricky. See-through water quality. Awesomeness. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind comments. I think the UV, in conjunction with the carbon in the FX-5 and filter sock, keep it really clear. I wish I could snap better pics with the 50/50 light showing--the tank has a much warmer glow than in the pics!

As for cleaning and getting to the bottom. I will address that issue in another post. Long cleaning tools are a must!

Very nice! I love the look of tall tanks. Not sure what the 350G looked like before, but it looks brand new (nice job polishing it).

What happened to the 375G? Did the seam actually leak? Once it's fixed, do you plan to run both tanks?

It was in decent shape when I got it. I did novus 3-2-1 all over and then sanded out about 30 deeper scratches and gauges.

THe 375g had the seam break at the top so no water leaked but it needed to be repaired. When we took it off the truck, the plastics pro pointed out a break in the back on the top panel in the back as well. He is going to pour the industrial grade weld-on in all the seams to reinforce. I would have done it but dont have the equipment to turn the tank upside down. Once it gets repaired, I'm going to set it back up in another room--But that will be another thread!

A lot of people have commented on what a pain cleaning a tall tank can be. It"s pretty much the same as a short tank, but with longer tools.

Here is a visual of my cleaning routine:

Tall Tanks need tall tools and a way to access the top.

I also use a mag float 510A to get clean the front window.

As for water changes, I use a 1" pvc pipe and 1" hose to drain water to my landscaping.

I have a really easy way to refill:
In my garage there is a 275g tote that I can fill with RO and hot water. Inside is a pump connecting to about 75ft of hose.

I run the hose up the driveway100_5026.jpg
Through the house

And into the tank

From there, I use a remote power switch to turn the pump on and off

While the tank is filling, I scrub the sides and move things back to where they belong. The clay dish covers up a plugged bulkhead on the bottom. The rays like to move it.

Then I clean the filter sock, I designed the sump for easy removal of the sock.

It takes me about an hour in total to clean and refill all my tanks (350, 175, 60, 20)
