koi being skiddish

my main concern on the size is which will make the one i have now more comfortble, would it matter?

I would try the goldfish first. Smaller in size and waste production, right now at least. A friend of mine bought a house w/a small pond in the back yard. It had 2, 10" Koi already in it. They hid ALL the time under a cave. As soon as he put some Shubs in there the Koi can out and now are quite interactive.

maybe ill try, comets are way cheaper ill get a couple more comets maybe close to the koi's size, if hes still skittish than after another week ill buy another koi.

Give the Koi some time. It's only been a week, he may still adjusting to his new home. I sure the goldies will bring him out of his shell.

with me i had a few smaller koi that were also skittish thhey started to settle when i put a 10 inch koi in the pond as well i also grew a few koi in a ank indoors for a while they get very tame that way nd take that tameness to the pond

this is exactly what I did, my petsmart koi were quite skittish when i first got them (3 of the 9 are petsmart koi) and they would hide and wouldn't eat unless they couldn't see me. (ie I had to go inside and peek through the window to see them eat) I took them inside during the pond remodel (they were 3-4" a piece) and they seemed to repsond nicely to the tank with plenty of hiding places. I then found a guy who was selling koi for 1$ an inch and picked up a 6" orange butterfly a 10" white, and a few smaller mixtures of white black and orange. i put all fo the koi in the larger pond and they seem to respond much better now. They follow the 10" white to food and don't seem to pay me much mind unless it's feeding time.

adding some pondmates and just giving them time is good advice. Gotta remeber koi live a very long time so a 3" one is pretty much infant level.
