i have personaly seen koi at 3+feet. they dont seem to mind crowding, so it depends on your demensions and filtration

koi takes a very long time to grow. they'll get 12-18" pretty fast, but once that's done, it'll take years to get past the 30" mark.

you have to keep in mind that koi are naturally cold water fish, they can live in freezing temperatures, which means they're MEANT to grow slow... which also explains why they're some of the longest living fish. like i said, cool water, good filtration, and minimal feeding will do the trick.

I grew up keeping koi and goldfish. Trust me, you can cram quite a bit of them in a cool, well filtrated pond with minimal feeding.

These are some of the toughest fish that'll thrive (yes, thrive) in conditions you normally won't consider healthy for other fishes. Kind of explains how they've spread all over the world.

3 as being generous is just a little conservative here. I recommend 20 as being the absolute maximum.

that grow into 20 3ft 30lb full grown ADULTS?

its not gonig to work in a 1000 gallon pond

Make your pond deeper by a foot and put a de-icer on in the winter. Then you won't have to bring them indoors.

nah have a hugh cow water tank with front cut out and replaces with plexiglas so can enjoy them all year. have looked at alot of sites and find out most snails cant be shipped any more except trap door snail

well if you go by 1 inch of fish per 2 gallon you could keep 13 koi in there if your filtre is up to it .

still alot more space than most aroa would get in a tank
