Does anyone know what kind of koi this is? Sorry about the quality of the picture any help would be appreciated.

My first thought was a common carp too. And as stated above, koi are carp, simply line bred for color and other human desired traits. Same as dogs are dogs (whether St Bernard or whippet), or cattle are domestic ungulates (Holstein or Texas Long Horn).

It does look like a common carp to me. But maybe it will get it's color later. I had a goldfish that looked like that.

Possible, but normally only goldfish are born grey. Koi are at birth a faint yellow red blue etc. Unicolour.

Either a black koi or common carp. Where you get this fish from?

Fish was bought at Captin Nemos aquarium superstore in Norristown PA. Just went there for the first time in a while this month and it is now some Pet Supplies Plus or something they still have a decent aquarium and fish supplies section but it is half of whta it was since they now sell things for cats, dogs, etc. I did buy what they had advertisied a carp for sale which after talking to the sales associate the lack of barbels meant it was a crucian carp and black kois offspring. They did assure me that they cannot sell native fish or in that case introduced native fish to a customer. This Koi really stumped me because he was too dark to be a common but too light to be a black he was just a solid brown.

So they can sell a koi but can't sell a common carp which is same species of koi? I'm sure it was just a common carp or a wild-type koi and not hybrid of crucian carp/black koi.

The hybrid was a previous purchase from there and thats what they told me they cannot sell native fish. That carp was extremely round at the bottom is a picture of a mirror carp it looked like. It was round like that but a redish brown and fully scaled. They used to sell channel cats but had to stop because they were natives. I dont know if it was a company thing or what about the native fish but they had never done it before. Before it was Captin Nemos it was another aquarium superstore called Big Al's which from what I've seen is a chain store which they might of been able to sell natives and Captin Nemos was not. Who knows though I really do not think that this Koi is a carp because it is just too brown to be one.
