back to the id, its not a common carp. The mouth is to far forward, no barbels, wrong color, head shape is wrong. This is from my experiences and slight research. For the fishing part they shouldn't be a sport fish they are invasive. Also if made into a sport fish they will be protected form bow fishing and excessive harvesting. They do put up a good fight, I have only snagged them on 8lb test 15ish pounds is my best. TONS OF FUN.

I'm going to have to disagree the buffalo are the in the same family look almost the same and are commonly mistaken for carp. Scientifically they are classified in the same order as carp. I mean I belong to the Carp Anglers Group and you'd be suprised how many people target carp on rod and reel in the US. By saying that carp aren't gamefish but buffalo are is like saying that largemouth bass are sport fish but bluegills arent even though both fish are from the same family and put up great fights. Yet again that's just my opinion on the topic.

Sorry that you are disagree but you are wrong on few things. First thing, buffalos are not related to the lowly carp, they are in another family called suckers. The buffalo are not even in same order! You'd be suprised how many people target and kill plenty of carp while fishing for other SPORTFISH. They may be popular sportfish in Europe, but here they are a trash fish that deserved to be culled. I've culled every single carp I caught and not a single carp return to the water. The carp are far from being popular sportfish in Americas, and they are not even a sportfish.

The Buffalo are included in the order Cypriniformes which include carp, minnows, and loaches and relatives so you're wrong there. You were correct that they are from the sucker family though. That right there is the only difference but if you trace the species it is the same as a carp. I go to school and study fisheries biology and asked my professor about it and thats what he told me only differences is barbels. I mean if thats how you treat them then knock yourself out I guess. I would like to say that I only support the common carp if youre talking about silvers and bigheads I agree 100% and kill all of them due to their devestating environmental effects. Nate Dogg that koi does have barbels the quality of the picture doesnt show them as well. The koi looked identical to every other koi and carp I've ever seen. I've seen the offspring of a koi and goldfish if thats what you think it is and they are the most goofy looking things. When I think about it I think that I should of said that the carp should be in the same fishing category as the catfish is. I guess I really meant was for them to be accepted.
