The growth rate depends on how much you feed the fish. If your going to powerfeed it and gutload it then you've got 3 months. If your going to feed just enough to keep it alive, enough for only minimal growth, then a year.

feeding does play a role, but not that big of a role, water change and water quality plays the biggest....... i feed my fish 3 times a week and they are still growing, with alot of water changes to boot..
