Koi pond power source

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
use solar and wind to reduce bills for your house. Until it gets better use mains for pond pumps etc. Armoured cabels are not too costly.

my small pond takes 160 watts of power my new pond will need more than double how can you get this from solar or wind ? Also night time solar wont do much
The more you need the more you add, solar doesn't have to be complicated, they are as weak or as strong as you need them to be, and have been used on ponds in excess of five acres.

As for nighttime: get a battery lol

One thing with solar or wind is cost. My friend got lucky on some panels and did his whole cabin with them full power to run whatever he wants. The battery bank cost him huge though. He actually makes money off how much power he generates as excess feeds into the grid. So that battery bank will one day be payed for. So I'd think you could do a pond really easily. But it'd be cheaper to run a dedicated line to the pond. You may find an electrician that will do the final hook up for you if you do all the digging and prewire it to save some money if you dont think you can do that part, its the hardest. I wired my entire basement and kitchen. My buddy is an electrical inspector and after some research online and in books (prior to youtube) he said they will pass inspection. It's not that hard really.

big banks of batteries are a great idea especially lithium ion watch the grand tour and see what happens when Richard Hammond crashes a battery car ! The only item I would run with solar power in a pond is a floating aerator. The power supply needs to be constant and as reliable as possible.

To get credit he will still need to link solar upto household mains so will still need to run a suitable cable. Still needs an sparky or do the work if he don't know how to do it himself. In the uk I think you can run 100ft of cable before you start getting issues.
