KOIs and Silver Arowanas: Good Mix or Bad?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've seen someone mix koi and arowana together in a pond.. But i have to agree that your mixing non tropical and tropical.... Also.. Koi's are pooping machine... Sure Koi colors are great.. but its from a different geographical location...

Personally.. i think its a bad mix because of temperature difference.. not sure if Kois can tolerate warm water.

Let us know how it works out...

I live in hawaii and temps are pretty high all yr. my koi dont seem to have a problem. so keeping koi and aro together shouldnt be to bad. any thoughts?

There are thousands of Koi ponds in this country, kept both indoors and outdoors. Never even heard about anybody chilling the waters. So, if it is a question of whether or not the kois will thrive in this country without chilling, I believe the question is undoubtedly a big YES!

There are even MORE arowana keepers in the country, although some of them have heaters, most just use them when there is disease.

We're talking about a year round temp of 25-28 degrees Celsius, (you Americans do the conversion since your country is the only developed country refusing to adopt the metric and celcius system :irked:) 24/7/365

I believe, especially with the Kois, the generations that have been bred in the country have acclimatized themselves to our climate. The fact that there are not major jumps in temps is also something good for the fish.
