KOIS FOR MY TANK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with most others...a 72 gallon aquarium is nowhere near big enough to keep any koi.

If you plan to keep the fish for their full life, you could probably keep 3 or 4 common goldfish in your 72 gallon aquarium. Buying 3 small goldfish for a 72G aquarium might sound ridiculous, but you won't think so when they reach their full potential at 12"+. A lot of people seem to stock an aquarium based on the size of the fish on the day they buy them as opposed to their full grown size...this will lead to problems as the fish reach maturity.

I currently have 6 large common goldfish (the largest is 10") I can't believe the amount of waste they produce. It's amazing how much they poop...and I'm not even feeding them very much.

In general should be in a pond, but for a year or two with extreme filtration, and frequent water changes.... you can make it work. Hence the website we are at MONSTER FISH .... the rule of thumb in ponds is about 150 gallons of water per fish..... or better, like 200 or 300 gallons per fish. That being said a resturaunt we frequent has a 150 gallon tank with about 6 KOI about 16" to 24" and their old KOI's are over 15 years old..... but they do 100% water changes once to twice a week

Terrible post, you should find a new forum to clog up with this kind of crap.

Well, keeping Koi in a tank isn't really a good idea unless they are juveniles under 6" or so, keep the common goldfish as suggested if you must.
