Okay, first off, let me start by saying i'm not sure if this is allowed here, so if its not... then Mods, please close this thread...

Now, i was asked by my colleauge to watch this video, and although i've seen it gone viral since yesterday, i only really sat down and watched it today...

After watching it, all i can think of was it seemed more like propaganda to invade Africa for more oil... i mean from my point of view, if they could take down saddam hussein and Osama Bin Laden how can they not take down this one guy (if they really wanted to)...

Now don't get me wrong, i'm all for helping the children and definitely feel Kony needs to be brought to justice... but at the end of the day just can't shake that feeling that theres something more to this whole "program" than just to bring Kony to justice and to help the children...

So what are your thoughts on this? am i alone here or are there others that feel the same?

P.S. lets please try and keep this clean... coz i'd really like to hear every bodies opinions on this just to see what every ones thoughts are on this KONY 2012 campaign...

I have to say I'm in full support of this. And not just because I reposted a video on a social network. I think it's a great cause to help other human beings, simply for the fact that they are humans and do inhabit the same Earth we do.

I don't agree with your statement of catching Kony like Sadam or Osama though. We had thousands of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is simply 100 in Uganda, teaching/educating THEIR troops to take out this terrorist from their country.

But that's where I draw the line. I'm in full support as long as we are solely in Uganda for aid and advice. If more of our soldiers are sent over to fight this war, I'm against. I believe there is nothing wrong with aid, but I am against starting another war that had nothing to do with us.

This is truly just my opinion and anyone is obviously free to feel what they want. The biggest thing that gets me is, if this was happening in America. God forbid(not saying it ever would), but what if tomorrow we woke up and a dictator was taking our boys and girls and then turning them into soldiers and slaves only to kill their own people? I truly hope someone, meaning an outside source if necessary, would step in and help.

Thats a fair view point... and i guess i should clear up what i meant by that quote about Sadam and Osama...

What i meant was, IF the Gov't really wanted to catch him, it wouldn't be nearly as hard as trying to catch Osama or Sadam imo... although no doubt, it would take more than 100 soldiers working as advisors to do it...

I guess also, after reading that only about 35% of all the money they have come in actually goes back into helping the children makes me also wonder a little bit... considering they are meant to be a not for profit company...

Naturally i understand that as with any business, money needs to be spent in order to keep it running... but still only 75% going back into company and only 35% for the program? but who am i to say... since i've not looked at their full budget spending yet!

Lastly, being in the PR business i naturally nit pick at all these sorts of videos, and the way it was made was very very clever and was explicitly designed to target younger people... i mean otherwise, not nearly as many people would be throwing their arms up in the air and re-posting this video like mad...

I could break it down more... but i'd probably be here forever...

I identify with both of you, I have very mixed feelings about this whole thing. It would be nice to live in a problem free world of course, and I'd like to think that simply donating money to a cause that is dedicated to fixing a problem like this would actually work - but I'm skeptical too. There is going to be overhead, even for non-profits, so that is expected - but I question how much is true overhead and how much is high paid employees. Companies like this could save themselves a lot of headaches and wonder if they were financially transparent in what they are doing, but that's not likely going to happen. Even if they post a list of costs, who;s to say these days that they don't have a real list and a fake list - kind of like a lot of truckers have to do for their log books because companies in the US don't always let them sleep like they need to but they need a cover if they get pulled over by the cops. Maybe I'm too cynical - I have been told this all my life too. I wish I knew that "x" amount of my donated dollar would get to the cause and make a difference, it's easy for someone to donate money and say they did something, harder to actually do it, especially with our busy schedules today and all. I do like helping with my selected causes, I do donate money to some I know, and when I'm short on money, I have found using www.change.org can be satisfying too.

@Fat Homer they do have charts of their income and expenses on invisiblechildren.com, whether you believe it or not is up to you.

I think that was a good article but it seems extremely opinionated. Some points I really don't agree with is this quote " The film also plays on an underlying theme of the White Man’s Burden, a notion that persons of European descent inherit a quality of guilt for their ancestors’ inclination for slavery and colonialism, requiring an activist response to finally correct the situation by “saving Africa.”

And I think that's what I hear the most when I talk to people about KONY2012 is race, somehow it always comes back to that. I just think its a shame you can't help out others because they are the same species as yourself.

But, they received my $30 and I will be going to the KONY2012 event down here. If its not what I hoped it was gonna be, oh well I guess I'll leave, take the shirt off and hope my $30 in some way did go to help someone else.

Thanks for the link to change.org

There was a link i saw today that supposedly had a list for their expenses although i didn't have time to check it out... But i'll see if i can find it later...

I agree its a shame that it keeps coming down to race... Normally if its tsunami, earthquake etc victims im all up for donating and so is every one else without thinking of race...

But in this case im just not sure where my money is going...

Anyone heard of Sam Childers?.....It's interesting that this thread has come as just a few days ago I saw a movie called Machine Gun Preacher. It is about Mr. Childers and his ongoing efforts to save these children from Kony.I've just logged on and saw this thread so I have not had a chance to look at the links yet but I thought I'd mention this movie in case you all have not seen it.
