Krobia Xingu Orange SPAWNED!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wierd. I don't remember ever seeing or reading of a cave spawning acara before, other than Nannacara. I wonder if this suggests a closer affinity to that genus than the Laetacara it is assumed they replace in Guyana and Eastern Brazil.

Thanks guys, I don't have a place ready for the fry so I'm going get a 20 gal set up tonight. Do you think I'll screw them up if I move the parents and the flower pot into the tank? The eggs where still there this morning but the placo makes me nervious?

Peat, I did not notice any breeding behavior untill I put the pot in, if says anything pluse Matt's experiance.

He marked up really nice for spawning.

Maybe just removing the pleco instead will save the eggs and be less stressful on the parents. I wouldn't move them until the fry were free swimming. Is there anything other than the pleco in the tank that will try to eat the eggs or fry?

Yeah Al there is another Krobia, A 8" GT, 5 corys and 7 Mollies all licking thier chops.

I've never had good luck moving parents with the fry. They usually get stressed and eat them. You could just wait until you have wrigglers then siphon them out. That's what I always do. Hang a net breeder in the empty 20 gallon and put the wrigglers in that. It will keep them from rolling around the tank bottom. Once they go free-swimming in the net breeder, you can feed them and then release them into the tank after a day or two.

If the parents are tending the eggs, they should have no problem keeping a Pleco or other tankmates away, especially with such a secluded cave entrance.

Yeah Ryan that's what I was thinking but input from others like yourself never hurts. I wasn't crazy about moving the parents and the eggs as this is somthing I never do however I do want these guys to survive. I'm going to set the twenty up tonight and once they hatch I'll remove them. I have a net breeder I use when I need more replacement Mollies for my tanks. Thanks for the advice. If I do get some of the fry to survive as always they will be free to any MFKer that's wants any just pay for shipping.

I hope you find a way to keep the majority of the fry from hungry tankmates. I guess you have no choice but to move them as soon as you can. Good luck, Tom!
