i noticed that my "Hydro Sponge Filter 4" was chewed up all over and thats where my new L-160 mostly hangs out at, and i think it was him. could he have eaten it??? will it harm him?? any advice/help?? has this ever happened before??? will he survive??? i just took that filter out and running a HOB filter now.

thanks

If you have other filters operating, did you see bits of sponges in them? My loaches keep disintegrating my sponges and I keep noticing bits of sponges in my gutter filter system.:duh:

ill check..... but would it be bad if he ate it??

i saw a few peaces half barried in the tank, but i don't really see any in the filter b/c i don't have a clear view of the HOB filter. is it possible that he ate it??? will he be ok?? what can i do??

Yes it's likely that he ate it. :screwy: It would have looked like a big algae covered marshmellow to a pleco that can eat solid wood.

What can you do.. not much. Take out the sponge filter and replace it with an internal power filter where the sponge is totally enclosed. As long as he chewed it well before swallowing it should just pass through his system as extra roughage.

Hope he's OK though.

Cheers

Ian

It should pass fine, lots of hard particles go through their tract, but at the same time, I'd think about trying to stop it from happening with another filter type.

ok thanks i hope it passes through. i removed the filter as soon as i saw what was going on, so thats never going to happen again. i have a HOB filter running now.
