L shaped plywood tank (55g conversion)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
one thing with being over built and another thing of a tank build. I am just saying it prob save you a lot of money if you didnt have the extra bracing on the bottom. and used that extra bracing as part of the stand.

The bracing is more for support of the front glass than it is for support of the bottom plywood.

becareful with over building, the more you do the more things can go wrong.... it looks cool though

I understand. I say keep the 1x2 on the font. and just screw that into the plywood. you dont need the 2x6 or the 2x4 on the bottom.

I didn't want to screw anything into the edge of the plywood, but I could do just some 1x2s.

Same with the back, I am now thinking 1x2s might be more appropriate.

Sound better?

New plans. Again, I am sorry for the terrible scans, I do not have a scanner nearly big enough.

You are making this much too complicated.

Cut your ply, screw it together, cut out the openings for the viewing windows, seal, fill. That's it.

Predrill all holes, and put screws every 2". use gorilla glue or liquid nails on all seams.

The more complicated you make this the better the chance of failure. remember the "KISS" analogy, "Keep It Simple Stupid"

Building my 240 ply tank I had all these grand plans for a super high speed tank. All said and done I screwed together 4 pieces of plywood, and added epoxy and glass.

Good luck, Love the idea of a corner tank, would love to do one myself some day.

Thanks! This is exactly the advice I needed, someone who has actually built it that way.

I am definitely going to redesign with just plywood and the rim.

I'll start the build in the next couple weeks, gotta cycle in some temporary tanks first.
