They are very slow growers, and rarely grow too much in aquaria.

Ah that sucks.. I was hoping it would get real big like the pic of the one on Planet Catfish.. what do you think the max size is in Aquaria 5-6"?

Largest I have seen is 14", however, that was wild caught. Those that are grown in aquaria don't grow much from their captured size. Generally don't expect them to grow much at all.

Most people can't get them to grow more than 2 or 3 inches from when they got them...
Not that it can't be done I'm sure, there are some very dedicated people working with these Baryancistrus.

Go for both.

Unfortunately mine died about a week after I brought it home, it simply would not eat, I know thats not long enough for him to die so there must have been something else wrong with him.

Most come in very thin. This is another problem I heavily associate with these fish... they eat all the time and are often malnurished. It is hard to get them back on track once they have badly sunken stomachs.

It took 3 gold nuggets before one survived over a month and eats everything and almost as active as my L014....He was in the LFS for a very short time unlike the other 2..No idea if that had anything to do with it or not.
