I just picked up an L114 Leopard Cactus today and was wondering if any of you keep this fish. The guy I got it from said not to feed algae wafers as it will starve the fish. Is this true? He said the same about my Green Phantom L200 but mine seems to eat them as well as cucumber. So my question is what is the proper diet for these L114? Also what’s the biggest one you’ve seen?

I don’t have L114 but I do have L024 and L014 and L096 which have similar care and feeding requirements.
You can feed the algae wafers if the fish will eat them, just not solely they need to be just a part of a diet that includes some meaty types foods.
Shrimp, and tilapia pieces are always a hit with mine.
I also feed some vegetables. Zucchini, pumpkin and sweet potatoes.
Mine also get massivore delite a couple times a week.

I knew they needed more of a meaty diet thanks for the options, I’ll grab some tilapia tomorrow!

Sunking carnivore pellets work well too, mine likes rasping on shrimp as well as sinking hikari cichlid cold and fluval bug bites pleco formula.

I just happen to have some Bug Bites in the sinking stick variety. Thanks! I’m loving this L114 already can’t wait to watch him grow. Going to try Tilapia today.

They are super slow growers I have 3x L114s growouts and 1x L24 at 13" they're fun fish to observe for sure the L24 is not a fan of carnivore pellets but shes a huge fan of the sticks I drop in for her earthworm and variety, she likes to munch on the cut up thawed/raw shrimp. scallops isnt her favorite but will take just to tease the tankmates with holding it in her mouth

Mine is around 4 inches or so. As for an adult I’ve seen 12-16” for the L114 from other forums I was just curious if anyone has seen them bigger. What size tank will you be keeping your L114 in?

Right now the 3x L114s 1 at 6"n 1 at 5.5" and one at 3" the last time I measured them few months back are in the 75g growout tank and the L24 is in the 112g til I find a bigger footprint. I rather focus on the footprint not the gallonage as 112g is really cramped for the L24 right now with only 3-4 inch moving space (I do not measure the streamers). It is 60" x 24" and only 18" deep
It's small for her but is dolable til I save up more $

Due to the pandemic my plans of getting a 280g or more is now on hold as I lost a roomie to a job transfer out of area and that was my fish play money. But definitely am looking at 2 more big tanks at 7 feet long and at least 2 feet wide with wriggle room for them to swim and turn around in

The L24s favorite thing to do right now is park herself on something like branch and sit in front of the powerhead. Another thing she does is lay on her back like shes dead. Its unsettling at first but am used to it as she will blink her eye letting me know she isnt dead. So I dont longer tap the panel. Shes such a character. I'm thinking about putting the smallest L114 in with her so it's not always sparring with the other plecos in that 75g tank.

Ok good to know. I was hoping to set up a 180 for my current fish now. I’m in the same boat with my plans being on hold but with that said a 125 being 18” wide would not be sufficient for an adult L114 is what you’re saying?
