L114 questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was finally able to scare him out of his hiding spot. What do you guys think? My best friend still swears he's got the L600 tail. I'm skeptical, esp for the price I got him seems too cheap to be L600.

It does indeed look like a 600. Wish I had a digital camera but I don't think my L-114 will get any larger than 11 inches. I bought him at 8 -9 inches last November so he could be really old not really sure. You will really enjoy these plecos as they age and their personality comes through. Mine will feed pellets out of my hand. Watch the bloodworms so I'am told (their endo skeleton came become problematic) no prove of this just relaying what was said by LFS. This dude has a lot of experiance and raises a lot of differant plecos. So take it as you will. I never feed anything but pellets and tetramin and my plecos are very healthy.

O wow tetramin is good for these plecos too? I didn't mention it but I throw in a lot of tetramin everyday for my tetras and cories in the tank to eat, didn't know he'd eat it too thanks!

Yeah my L-114 as big as he is loves tetramin. I use the color flakes and it seems to bring out the red in his fins. Never seen a pleco that wouldn't eat tetramin.

Anybody know what kinda growth rate these plecs have? He definitely seems to have gotten fatter and the spots at the ends of the tail seem to have formed.

From what i can tell.. they grow faster around 6" mark.. I have two.. one at 4" and a 6" since then.. my 6" has become a 7" My 4" hasn't grow much..

When young.. they tends to grow slower..

And yes.. your L114 does seem to be more of the L600 variation..

That's odd, usually its the other way around. Rapid growth as juvies and a reduced rate as subadults. So if it is a l600... that's a good thing right? Lol

ya.. L600 variation are slightly bigger than L114s... the are the same species. but its kinda like comparing a regular tiger to a Siberian Tiger.. which is a subspecies of Tiger..

In this case. L600 is known to be slightly bigger comparing to regular L114s and the tail is fully orange.

Mine are starting to darken up, with the spots forming on the tail. I guess time will tell if they are L-600 or L-114s.

My largest one grew from 4 to 5.5 inches in about 4 months; I guess I should expect another growth spurt? During that time, the smaller ones grew slowly from 2.5 to less than 3.5 inches.
